You Don’t Have to Remain Stuck in Your Unfulfilling Job Forever

You’ve got the time, you’ve got the determination–all you need is a little direction.

You want to create a plan to get into your ideal job, but find yourself paralyzed. Sometimes due to overwhelm, frustration, perceived lack of time or fear of failure. But ultimately, it’s because you’re not 100% clear on what you want your career to look like.

As you know, finding career clarity is far more complicated than it sounds. Not only do you have your own concerns about finding your ideal job, but you also have to contend with the expectations and opinions of your colleagues, family and friends.

But what if you didn’t have to worry about what other people think? What if you were able to fully explore your career options alongside other lawyers who are doing the same thing?

Only when you have a supportive environment that encourages the discovery of your unique values, strengths and motivations are you then able to pinpoint the work you should be doing, create a realistic career plan and cultivate the confidence, resilience and drive to stay on track.

For better or for worse, the biggest obstacles you face right now are most likely of your own creation.

Tell me if this sounds familiar:

  • You feel pressure to “use” your law degree.
  • If you leave your current job, everyone will think you couldn’t hack it.
  • You’re worried you won’t be good at anything else.
  • You wish you could leave your job, but have no idea where you’d go.

Although you’re certainly allowed to have these worries and fears, you’re also allowed to set them aside while you give yourself an opportunity to pursue a more fulfilling career.

Just imagine having:

  • A clear sense of direction
  • Confidence in your chosen career path
  • Skills and systems you need to overcome obstacles and stay motivated
  • A step-by-step plan for reaching your career goals

“I had a passion for something else.”

People were shocked when I told them I hired someone to coach me to leave my job, but even those of us who are highly motivated, driven people can benefit hugely from Annie. She provided the insight, perspective and motivation I needed in order to make this jump.

I was a lawyer myself for seven years before I left the legal profession to become a career coach. But five years into my legal career, I had no idea what I wanted to do. All I knew was that I needed to get out of my unsatisfying, soul-sucking, mindless real estate practice.

I read self-help books targeted at unhappy attorneys, but they focused on extreme success stories wherein former lawyers became Hollywood agents, editors for prestigious publishing houses or high-powered executives for Fortune 500 companies.

I wasn’t about to rule out a flashy career as a sports agent, but I also wasn’t about to dismiss the possibility that all I needed was a change from transactional work to litigation focused work.

I needed real-life examples of “normal” lawyers who were embarking on career transitions like mine.

The next best thing I was able to find was a group coaching program for young women going through big life transitions. There weren’t any lawyers in the group, but my life coach guided me into the career I now have and love–giving attorneys like you the direction they need to get the jobs they want.

I created the Career Clarity Clinic because it’s what I needed when I was in your shoes.

“I have goals and a plan for my career.”

I had a total lack of confidence in my value to an employer and had no idea what to do next in my career. Now I have confidence that my experience and abilities are valuable to employers and am inclined to talk about what I can do instead of what I can’t do.

The Career Clarity Clinic includes:

  • Four to eight like-minded lawyers seeking career change in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment
  • A 30 minute one-on-one coaching call with me before the first group call
  • Six bi-monthly 60 minute group coaching calls (to be held either weekday evenings or weekend mornings)
  • Bi-monthly challenges to inspire progress toward your goals
  • A private Facebook group to share struggles, celebrate wins and hold each other accountable.
  • A 30 minute one-on-one coaching call with me after the last group call

After completing the Career Clarity Clinic, you’ll have clear career direction, a step-by-step career plan you’re excited to implement and the skills, systems and confidence to stay motivated as you work toward your new career goals.

Why a group? Having participated in group coaching myself, I can tell you there’s an unquantifiable benefit to working alongside others who are going through the same struggle you are. There’s a sense of comfort knowing you’re not alone. There’s a sense of boosted motivation in hearing other attorneys are excited about various career paths. Plus, committing to change is easier in a group setting where you have a tight-knit community for sharing struggles, celebrating wins and holding each other accountable.

What if I’m short on time? Lawyers are busy professionals. No doubt about it. But lawyers are also super organized and known for doing whatever it takes to get what they want. If you’re ready to get out of your crappy job, I’m confident you’ll be able to set aside one hour every two weeks for the group calls. And you’ll only need another hour or two over the course of two weeks to finish your homework challenges.

Do I have to be on every group call? Ideally, yes. But sometimes shit happens. If you miss one call, you’ll be okay since each call will be recorded–but missing more than that isn’t recommended. You need to be actively involved to get the most out of this group.

What about confidentiality among group members? Good question. You’ll all be covered by a confidentiality clause in the coaching agreement everyone must sign upon joining the group.

“I had achieved every goal that we set together.”

Working with Annie for a few months helped me make more progress toward my goals than I had made in years by myself. Annie was wonderful to work with and didn’t “make” me do anything or offer quick fixes. Instead she helped me identify a path forward and then helped me to hold myself accountable.
